In July 2014 a party of Bournemouth & District Probus joined members of Poole Probus Club and their ladies to spend a delightful week in the heart of the Bordeaux wine growing region.

Flying from Southampton they went first by coach to Sarlat le Caneda, where they enjoyed a ‘get-together’ dinner.

The next day the coach took them along the banks of the river Dordogne to Bergerac and finally to join the cruise ship “Princess d’Aquitaine” for the next five days.

Coach excursions included a tour of the Cuvier et chai of the famous Chateau Pichon Longueville, which of course included some wine tasting.

The ship was decorated throughout in celebration of Bastille Day on 14th July. In the evening the ships officers joined our group in an aperitif, following which, to the surprise of the French passengers, Probus members stood and sang in French “le Marseillaise”.  Later that evening the party were on the top deck to watch a brilliant firework display nearby.

There were other opportunities to celebrate as one of our members had his 80th birthday, as did the wife of a Poole member, and another Bournemouth member his 91st.

The group extended their thanks to Martin Osborne for arranging the holiday.  They were full of praise for the quality of service on board, the food, and the plentiful supply of liquid refreshment!!!
